Rule basics

Rules turn a zone into bookable slots — set cutoffs, lead time, capacity, and a recurring schedule.

What a rule controls

A rule attaches to a zone and generates slots on a schedule. Every rule has four required settings:

SettingWhat it does
ScheduleWhich days of the week the rule generates slots for.
Cutoff timeThe latest time same-day slots stay bookable.
Lead timeMinimum notice before the earliest bookable slot.
CapacityOrders a single slot can hold before it shows as full.

Multiple rules per zone

A zone can hold more than one rule — for example a tighter weekday schedule and a shorter weekend one. SlotSmith generates slots from every active rule on a zone and merges them into a single list on the storefront.

Capacity of zero

Setting capacity to 0 marks a rule as uncapped — slots never show as full, regardless of booking volume. This is distinct from a low capacity number and is treated as an explicit flag, not “no room.”

Next: conditional rules

For rules that should only apply to certain products or cart totals, see Conditional rules.
